I use Assempro regularly, and have done so for more than 2 years. The assembler works quite well, compiling anything I gave it easily. However, my style is not common in that I seldom use include files of the C sort; that is, lists of equates and defines. This style works well for Assempro for 2 reasons: 1, the included macro libraries are not worth the effort of using. I think that the author produced libraries for his own use, and I find them useless. 2, the debugger can't tell which name you equated to a number very well. It appears to use the first occurence in debugging, which can be confusing. I generally use include files for logically related portions of source code. I would reccommend it as it appears to be one of the most inexpensive commercial assemblers around, and works well for the price. One warning: it uses a few constructs which are not Motorols standard, I think it's the directives for setting portions to even addresses, but I've had no problems. >Chris Freemesser, Rochester Institute of Technology :BITNET:%clf3678@RITVAX (rest of sig deleted) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Kitakaze Tatsu Raito Neil Gilmore internet:gilmore@macc.wisc.edu | | Jararvellir, MACC, UW-Madison bitnet: gilmore@wiscmac3 | | Middle Kingdom Madison, Wi | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Date: 17 Nov 89 21:29:24 GMT From: gem.mps.ohio-state.edu!uakari.primate.wisc.edu!caesar.cs.montana.edu!blake!rams iri@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu (Enartloc Nhoj) Subject: COMDEX I went to my local dealer minutes ago to get a laser printout. While waiting, the owners of the store called from Las Vegas, having spent the last several days taking in the new products. The TT? The owners said that Atari made a very bad move by displaying DESKSET II (?)... in their words, it was "dogmeat"... "very slow". They said it didn't make a good impression, obviously. Furthermore, ATARI would NOT give a release date. All they would say was: "It's available in Canada and in Europe." Another vote for Dave Small and Jim Allen! DO IT ! And Greg L, you're right, all the bashing in the world won't change a thing.. particularly when dealing with ATARI.. they really don't give a damn. -kevin ramsiri@blake.acs.washington.edu ------------------------------ Date: 17 Nov 89 21:46:48 GMT From: gem.mps.ohio-state.edu!samsung!caesar.cs.montana.edu!blake!ramsiri@tut.cis.ohio -state.edu (Enartloc Nhoj) Subject: COMDEX Forgot to mention in last post... The computer has not been upgraded. The monitor is of the original (higher quality) type and works perfectly. I also have an Okimate 20 color printer with black (and maybe color) ribbon which works, except that the head needs to be replaced for about ($30 from Okidata Inc. - it is 24pin thermal transfer). I wish to trade my system for a 1040ST with a monochrome monitor and disk drivor perhaps an Amiga 1000-2000 system (i think the st would be preferable). The reason I want a 1040 is to do word processing with greater memory (i plan to buy a new printer as well). I settled for a monochrome because i thought that the value of a color monitor and printer would make the trade fair. Please respond to ta-kbm@cunixd.columbia.edu or majmudar@cs.columbia.edu. I am also willing to consider trading for a XT or AT clone and/or a reasonable cash offer. Kaushal Majmudar Columbia University N.Y. Somebody starts talking about making a board that will help the ST and what happens ... somebody starts jumping on him for having vaporware !!! Gees, the guy has just said is is going to consider do something ... he hasn't even said for sure that he will do it and he gets jumped on. Be real, at least give the guy a chance ... if you want another product, go for it - no problem, but don't jump on Dave. He's trying to do something positive for the ST. He has a proven record of succeeding at what he tries also. By anonymous FTP from col.hp.com look under ka9q/pe1chl for the ST there are two archive files of interest: 890814st.arc object files net_doc.arc documentation for this version of the ka9q code I believe that 890814st.arc is missing 'bm.tos' which is a mailer. I will try to upload that into this same directory as soon as I can. Well, this may all be ancient history if Dave Small creates a 68030 board for the ST. I trust his business sense a LOT more than Atari's. If he produces anything close to the quality of his other projects, he will make a lot of money (and a lot of disgusted users happy). I'm glad someone credible picked up the ball that Atari fumbled....sad, but true...
